Payment Platform Migration to Cloud-Native Architecture

A European fintech company needed to move their monolithic payment processing system to a cloud-native architecture — without any downtime for their merchants.

The challenge

The client operated a payment processing platform handling thousands of transactions per minute across multiple European markets. Over eight years, their monolithic .NET application had become difficult to modify, slow to deploy, and expensive to scale.

Regulatory requirements were increasing, and the engineering team was spending more time on maintenance than new features. They needed a migration path that would not disrupt their merchants or their compliance standing.

Our approach

We started with a four-week discovery sprint. Our AI-augmented code analysis tools mapped every business rule, API contract, and data dependency in the existing system. The result was a complete specification — something the client had never had.

With the specification as our guide, we used a strangler fig approach — building new microservices alongside the monolith and gradually shifting traffic module by module. AI-assisted test generation verified each migrated service behaved identically to its predecessor.

Both our engineers and the client's compliance team validated every migration step against the original specification before it went live.
